  • All classroom based training for beginners and technique taught on dummy arm
  • All students need to be aware you will need to be covered for Hep B when working with patients.
  • Theory studied first will include, health & safety, risk assessments, anatomy & physiololy of arm
  • Teach students vacutainer and syringe method of venepuncture
  • Taught how to operate in clinical setting not just technique, how to label samples appropriately, patient after care etc
  • Role play clinics within classroom
  • Assessment required before certificate issued assessment tests practical skills and understanding of theory.
  • Students are expected to do some assignment work at home as part of asssessment to test understanding of theory
  • Basic training sufficient to look for work as newly trained phlebotomist but all students will be expected to do some practical on real patients before being passed as competent phlebotomists. This may be done through own employment where students are already working in a medical environment, or through mentorship if they find own job or through ourselves, (additional one to one training to build up experience and confidence).

Advanced Phlebotomy (Level 3) £100 inclusive of VAT

Candidates must have a minimum of three months previous experience in Phlebotomy or working in a Clinical Environment.

Students are expected to attend 5 hours of classroom training in addition to home studying and assignments prior to being issued with a Certificate Of Attendance.

  • How to deal with Faints Fits & Vomits
  • Taking Blood from high risk patients

Re-Assessments Required every 3 years £60 inclusive of VAT

This re-assessment is in line with the core blood competencies assessment framework laid down by the National Patient Safety Agency.  It assesses your ability to obtain a venous sample.  This competence is linked to the Knowledge and Skills Framework dimensions developed by skills for life.  These dimensions are Communication, Health and Safety and Well Being.

The competency assessment consists of a classroom update on venepuncture, which will last approximately two hours.  The competence assessment will be carried out at your workplace or within one of our clinics.

CLINICAL SKILLS Levels 2 & 3 £100 each inclusive of VAT

This one day course will teach you the basic skills required to assist in a variety of clinics.  No previous knowledge or experience is necessary, however, you will be expected to have basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Training will be delivered by qualified staff with previous clinical experience.

 

Level 2

The course will include:

  • Blood Pressure - Taking a person’s blood pressure using manual and automated device
  • Urinalysis
  • Height/Weight
  • BMI
  • Waist Circumference
  • Respiratory/Pulse Rate
  • Temperature
  • Infection Control

Level 3

The course will include:

  • Peak Flow meters
  • ECG
  • Pulse Oximetry
  • Infection Control
  • Rights, diversity, equality & responsibilities
